PROTECTING EUROPE'S CULTURAL HERITAGE
Our organisation has a very strong interest in the conservation and protection of monuments, in the occupied area of Cyprus.
Protecting European Culture
Friends, members and supporters of the EUROCULTURE association during our visit to the occupied north on Saturday 3/9/16, from where the photos were taken.
As it is known, our association, a non-profit organisation, has a very strong interest in all social, cultural and educational matters, but mainly in the conservation and protection of our monuments, in the occupied area of Cyprus.
Visit in the Occupied Part of Cyprus
The President of our association, visited with two Europarliament members, the occupied part of Cyprus, and examined the destruction of the European cultural heritage.
Protecting European Culture
The president of EuroCulture took part in a mission with members of Europarliament. The members of Europarliament were surprised by the vandalism they saw while visiting Greek-Orthodox churches in the occupied part of Cyprus (Oct 2011). Mr Symeonides, the president of EuroCulture, explained in detail the Cyprus problem.
Culture in the occupied part of Cyprus (cemeteries, churches) is being destroyed year by year. 520 churches have been destroyed, used as stables or converted into mosques. Icons, frescoes and religious relics are being systematically stolen and sold abroad.
EuroCulture amongst its other activities is promoting efforts aiming at protecting those unique monuments of Cyprus and European history.
Destruction of Cultural Heritage
The above photo was taken in an occupied village in the northern part of Cyprus. Here you can see the cemetery of Greek Cypriot Christians, which in the hands of the Turkish occupiers have been completely abandoned, looted or destroyed.
Our association gives great priority in the preservation of the Cypriot cultural heritage, which is concurrently European.
